Come summer, it is hard days for pachyderms. With animal lovers on the look out for any violation of rules regarding rights of animals, it is a really onerous task for the mahouts and the elephant owners to see that the jumbos are cared for and their health maintained in shipshape. Not a day passes without a report of maltreatment of elephants. Hence no one is taking any chances. The city roads do witness interesting modes of transportation of elephants. The elephants, to save them from the long trek on foot on tarred roads, are now being taken on lorries. But the ordeal continues for the creature which have to suffer in silence.
