A novel experience for children

Scores of kites dotted the sky over Kozhikode beach on Monday as children participated in a kite-flying programme organised by the Green World Village and Research Centre.

The summer vacation initiative proved to be a novel experience for the 70-odd children who participated in the event.

Green World director T. Shobeendran said many children were trying their hand at flying a kite for the first time in their life. Children below 18 participated in the programme

Soon the enterprise of the young was evident, as they became adept in the skill. Many of the kites soared high in the clouded summer sky. There was no contest, no prize winners, and no prizes. All the participants were presented a pen by the organisers. The right ambience was created on the beach, with an instrumental music recital by Njeralath Harigovind.

The kite-flying programme was conducted by Green World in association with the release of the book `Prakrithi Yatra', authored by A.K.Varun, and published by Olive Publications.

The book was released by lyricist Kaithaprom Damodaran Namboodiri at a programme later, by handing over a copy to Amrita Babu, the State-level winner in the book reading competition and a student of Nochad High School here. Prof. Shobeendran presided.
