dated April 12, 1956: BCCI demand for equality

India has asked for equality of status for all members of the Imperial Cricket Conference from this year. The President of the Board of Control for Cricket in India, the Maharajkumar of Vizianagaram, has given notice of a resolution to this effect to the Imperial Cricket Conference, which is to meet in London on July 19 this year. The resolution says: "As cricket is essentially a Commonwealth game and since all cricketing nations are governed by the Imperial Cricket Conference, inequality of status for India, Pakistan and the West Indies, which have only one vote each as against Britain, Australia, South Africa and New Zealand, which have two votes each, goes against the principles of equality. The BCCI feels that all affiliated countries of the ICC should be on a par, by having the same status and uniform representation.'' An Indian resolution for changing the name of the conference to Commonwealth Cricket Conference, moved last year, has been included in this year's agenda.
