Hyderabad-based firm prepares all plans using satellite imaging

  • Finalised plans will be sent to the State Government for approval and notification
  • Process of engaging public for submission of objections and suggestions completed for eight zones

VIJAYAWADA: The board of the Vijayawada-Guntur-Tenali-Mangalagiri Urban Development Authority (VGTM-UDA) will meet on April 22 to finalise the zonal development plans (master plans) of about 10 zones in its area. The plans so finalised by the UDA board will be sent to the State Government for approval and notification.

The UDA has so far released draft master plans of 14 zones out of the 15, for which it had entered into a memorandum of understanding with Speck Systems Private Limited, Hyderabad. The firm prepared all the plans using satellite imaging.

The 15 zones are Vijayawada, Tadepalli, Gollapudi, Kondapalli, Nunna, Kanuru, Gannavaram, Guntur, Namburu, Pericharla, Ankireddipalem, Tenali, Katevaram, Mangalagiri and Kaza. Barring Namburu, the UDA has released the draft plans of all other zones.

The process of engaging the public for submission of objections and suggestions on the plans and receiving responses for about eight zones has already been completed, while the remaining zones will be covered later.

    Major objection

Of all plans, it is the draft master plan of Vijayawada, which elicited good response. The UDA officials received about 250 responses, a majority of which objected to the formal declaration of Mahatma Gandhi Road as a 120 foot-wide road.

According to VGTM-UDA vice-chairman V. Durga Das, all the objections and suggestions had been tabulated category-wise, and the board would consider them with an `open mind'. "But there will be no change in the declaration of Bandar Road as 120-foot-wide, as it had already been notified by the Government through a G.O.," he pointed out.

An effort is being made to complete the task of preparing all the 15 plans and sending them to the Government for ratification by April-end. By conducing another meeting of the board by April-end, this would be achieved.

The UDA will also prepare, at a later stage, zonal development plans for Amaravati and Kankipadu, which have been added to the list of zones under its jurisdiction. While a form of older master plan has been available for the two zones, altogether new plans are required to be prepared for these two new zones also.
