BHEL Ranipet profit at Rs. 53 cr.

Gets Rs. 1,060 cr. orders


  • Export turnover exceeds Rs. 200 cr.
  • 13 R&D projects were commercialised

    RANIPET: The boiler auxiliaries plant (BAP) of Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited (BHEL), Ranipet, booked orders worth Rs. 1,060 crore during 2005-06. It now had the highest ever outstanding order book of Rs. 1,600 crore, according to S. Sathyanarayanan, Executive Director, BAP.

    Addressing a press conference on the unit's performance during 2005-06 here, Mr. Sathyanarayanan said the BAP earned profit for the 23rd year in a row, and made a profit before tax of Rs. 52.80 crore against Rs. 21.40 crore in 2004-05. The company touched a financial turnover of Rs. 816.81 crore and a physical turnover of 1.06 lakh tonnes against Rs. 544.41 crore and 72,934 tonnes respectively. The financial turnover marks a 50 per cent growth over the previous year.

    The company made an export turnover of Rs. 211.68 crore, including deemed exports.Mr. Sathyanarayanan said the first fume extraction system for arc furnaces, developed in-house by BAP, was successfully commissioned in BHEL, Haridwar. The first glass filtration system for glass furnace application with fans and gas cooler was successfully commissioned in the St. Gobain glass plant at Sriperumbudur.

    A reverse osmosis-based desalination plant was commissioned for the Airports Authority of India at the Chennai Airport.

    Thirteen research and development projects were commercialised during the year and the turnover from these yielded Rs. 44.12 crore. Shop production went up by 52 per cent, while deliveries by sub-contractors rose from 41,534 tonnes to 55,511 tonnes.

    The major R&D efforts under way included the development of special type heating elements for APH and knowledge management implementation for major products.
