MADURAI: P. Shyaam Nikhil of Dolphin Matriculation Higher Secondary School won two titles in boys' section (under-18 and under-14) in the two-day rapid open chess tournament, which concluded here on Sunday. Inter-district hockey
Twenty-four teams, including the defending champion, Madurai and last time runner-up and host, Sivaganga will vie for honours in the Kandasamy Memorial Trophy Tamil Nadu State sub-junior inter-district hockey championship, which will get underway at the RDGA College ground, Sivaganga on Wednesday.
Century by Mohan
Despite Mohan Kumar's brilliant century, Nandha Engineering College (Perundurai) went down by three wickets to Railway Colony Cricket Club (Erode) in the Indian Bank-EDCA first division league for the R. Arjunan Memorial Trophy at the Vellalar College of Engineering and Technology grounds in Erode here on Sunday. However, Nandha EC came back strongly on Monday to post a 48-run win over Sky Boys Cricket Club. The scores: Nandha EC (Perundurai) 205 for seven in 40 overs (Mohan Kumar 100) lost to Railway Colony CC (Erode) 206 for seven in 37 overs (Sanjeevi 56, Santhosh 47 n.o.); Nandha EC 203 in 39.5 overs (Mohan Kumar 41, Vyshak 40, Nalli four for 44) bt Sky Boys CC (Erode) 155 in 39.4 overs (Deva 56).
Murugan, Suresh shine
I. Murugan's half-century and R. Suresh's four-wicket haul guided Map CC to a 43-run win over Super Sonic CC in a Tiruchi DCA first division league match in Tiruchi. The scores: Map CC 174 for eight in 35 overs (I. Murugan 69) bt Super Sonic CC 131 in 31.4 overs (R. Suresh four for 22). Southern Railway Institute 115 in 31.4 overs (J. Basketball trials
