NEW DELHI: Gugan Verma of Tamil Nadu upset the fifth-seeded Abhijeet Tiwari of Chhattisgarh 6-4, 2-6, 7-6 (5) in the second round of the Hindustan Times AITA National series under-16 tennis tournament at the Yamuna Sports Complex here on Tuesday. In another upset of sorts, qualifier Karun Uday Singh knocked out the fourth-seeded Parul Verma of Chandigarh 7-6 (2), 6-0. It was a repeat match of the final qualifying round, and Karun had beaten Parul in a more comprehensive fashion then. Parul eventually made the main draw as a lucky loser, and was seeded thanks to his national ranking of No.7. The results: Boys (second round): B. Vikram Reddy bt Mandeep Yadav 6-2, 6-2; Himanshu S. Bishnoi Club clinches title
Dhruv Shorey's 76 runs helped Bishnoi Club beat Turf Cricket Academy by seven wickets and win the inaugural Bishnoi International Youth Cup cricket tournament at the Ferozeshah Kotla ground here. The scores: Turf Cricket Academy 153 for six in 35 overs (Varun Chakravarti 55) lost to Bishnoi Club 157 for three in 24.2 overs (Dhruv Shorey 76).
