Silk traders relieved of cash, saris

Staff Reporter

ANANTAPUR: Two silk traders, Srinivas and Ramesh, from Proddatur in Kadapa district were robbed by dacoits, when they were returning home from Dharmavaram Monday night near Bandaladinne village in Tadipatri mandal. They were relieved of Rs. 80,000 in cash and silk saris worth Rs. 18,000.

According to the police, the duo and six others had their dinner in a Tadipatri hotel during their return journey from Dharamavaram. The four-wheeler in which they were travelling slowed down near Bondaladinne as the road was under repair. Then dacoits wielding hunting sickles broke the windscreen of the vehicle, threatened to kill the traders, and fled with the loot. A trader Subbarayudu sustained minor injuries in the incident.
