KARIMNAGAR: Minister for Sports M. Satyanarayana Rao has hailed Chief Minister Y S Rajashekhar Reddy's Praja Patham programme as an answer to the grievances of the rural people at their door-step. ``When the State was reeling under acute drought conditions, we have conducted the first phase of Praja Patham in 2005 and successfully solved the drinking water problem in all the habitations on a war-footing in spite of protests. During this year, we have been conducting Praja Patham programme when there was peak demand for the power supply in the farm sector due to increase in area of cultivation'', he said. Participating in the Praja Patham programme in Padmanagar, Rekurthi, Chintakunta, Kothapalli, Kokkerakuta and other villages on Tuesday, the Minister said that the Government was not in a position to supply more than seven hours of continuous power to the farming community going by the load factor and equal distribution among all feeders. The demand for the power supply had increased due to increase in the area of cultivation following good rainfall and improvement in the ground water table. He however, assured protection the standing crops by providing the promised power supply and urged the farming community to cooperate with the Government. When the villagers of Rekurthi and Padmanagar protested against merger of villages with the Karimnagar Municipal Corporation, the Minister said that the merger with the Corporation would be taken up only on completion of the existing Sarpanchs' term. He said that the villages would be developed on a par with the town after the proposed merger. He also explained the importance of transforming villages under the Indiramma scheme. Collector C Parthasarathi, Markfed chairman Ponnam Prabhakar, Karimnagar Agricultural Market Committee Chairman Y Sunil Rao, KDCCB chairman K Ravinder Rao, RDO Prasada Rao, MRO Mahesh and others were present.
