IMA office bearers

KOLLAM: V. Samuel and Radhakrishnan M.P. have been elected president and secretary respectively of the Kollam branch of the Indian Medical Association. The other office-bearers are B. Haridasan and Deepthi Prem, vice-presidents, B. Shine, treasurer, Ajit Rony, joint secretary and D. Sreekumar, State working committee member. TDB plan

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The Travancore Devaswom Board is planning to develop the regional centre of the Kshetra Kala Peedham based at the Koyikkal Palace, Attingal, and offer more courses in temple arts, Board member Punalur Madhu announced here on Tuesday. He was addressing students who had passed out of the centre in various disciplines. Culture Director B.Unnikrishnan and Kala Peedham director Thakazhy Sankaranarayanan were present. — Staff Reporter

Award for Veena expert

THRISSUR: The Veena maestro R. Venkitaraman has been selected for the Sangeetharathna title instituted by the Sruthibharati Academy of Fine Arts here. According to a press release from the academy office-bearers, T.K. Devanarayanan and A. Ananthapadmanabhan, here on Tuesday, the title will be presented to Mr. Venkitaraman at a function here on April 16. This is the eighth award given to the renowned music personalities by the academy, which is the music training institute of the Kerala Brahmana Sabha. — Staff Reporter

Indian flight rescheduled

KOZHIKODE: Citing operational reasons, Indian, formerly Indian Airlines, has rescheduled its IC-997 Kozhikode-Doha-Bahrain flight to 4.30 p.m. on April 12, 13 and 14, according to a press release from the airline. — Staff Reporter

Mango exhibition from May 5

KOZHIKODE: The annual mango exhibition and sale conducted by the Calicut Agri-Horticultural Society will be organised from May 5 to 8 at Gandhi Park, near Fourth Gate, here. The decision to conduct the event was taken at a meeting of the organising committee held here recently. Mango varieties from Kerala and outside, besides other fruits, will be exhibited at the show, Calicut Agri-Horticultural Society secretary James Jacob said in a press release. As has been the practice, a mango-eating contest will also be conducted as part of the show. — Staff Reporter

Kathakali recital

KOZHIKODE: The Thodayam Kathakali Yogam in association with Sopanam, Kozhikode Chapter, will stage a Kathakali recital at the Padmashree Kalyana Mandapam at Tali here on April 12, from 9 p.m. to dawn. The P.S.V.Natya Sangham, Kottakkal will stage `Santhanagopalam' and `Rajasuyam', on the occasion. Noted kathakali exponent Kottakkal Chandrasekharan will be honoured at the public meeting to be conducted before the Kathakali recital. Talks will be delivered on the contribution of Kalamandalam Hyderali and Venmani Haridas to the genre of kathakali music, as part of the progrmme. — Staff Reporter
