BHOPAL: The entire Khandwa city in western Madhya Pradesh was brought under curfew on Tuesday morning after groups belonging to two communities resorted to heavy stone-throwing in different parts of the city. The police had to use tear-gas and resort to lathi- charge to disperse the mobs. The authorities immediately imposed prohibitory orders under Section 144CrPC and by 12 noon the entire city was brought under curfew. The Superintendent of Police told The Hindu that there was heavy deployment of police force keeping in view the Milad-un-Nabi and Mahavir Jayanti processions. He said additional police force had reached Khandwa from Indore force and the situation had been brought under control.
