MYSORE: The seer of Kanchi Kamakoti Peetham, Sri Jayendra Saraswathi, visited Mysore on Tuesday to participate in functions organised by religious associations. Sri Jayendra Saraswathi was accorded a traditional welcome by the Seetharama Temple Committee and office-bearers of Brahmana Mahasabha when he arrived at the tollgate in the morning. Before performing puja at Sri Seetharama temple, the seer went to Chamundi Hills and participated in the special puja to Goddess Chamundeshwari organised by temple authorities. Sri Jayendra Saraswathi later performed puja at Sri Seetharama Temple, a branch of Kanchi Kamakoti Peetham. A large number of devotees also performed padapuja to the seer.
Idol installation
He visited the city in connection with Sri Seetharama Temple festivities, which would be organised between April 23 and May 2 to install the idol of Sri Shankara Bhagavadpada. Sri Jayendra Saraswathi told presspersons that the Kanchi Kamakoti Peetham planned to start Veda Pathashala in Mysore, Honnavara and Kollur to create awareness on Vedas and puranas among the younger generation. He urged the parents to send their children to the pathashalas so that children will imbibe knowledge.
Welfare measures
The seer said that the Kanchi Kamakoti Peetham also had plans to launch social welfare measures. A 200-bed hospital had been established in Shimoga for the poor, the seer said. The seer would visit Mysore on May 2 during the installation of idol of Sri Shankara Bhagavadpada.
