MANGALORE: The Vijaya Charitable Trust in association with Highland Hospital here will be organising a free eleven-day cleft lip and cleft palate camp for poor patients at Highland Hospital from April 19 onwards. According to Naveen Rao, camp convener and consultant maxillofacial and facial plastic surgeon, a camp of this nature is being organised for first time in the city Dr. Rao told presspersons here on Wednesday that the trust was formed with the sole intention of rendering charitable treatment to economically backward sections of society. The trust through its philanthropic activities aims at providing a better quality of life to patients, he said. He said those having either a cleft lip or cleft palate disorder from any part of the country can register with the organisers. The organisers intend to operate on as many cases as they can, he added. "Our realistic target is 25 patients a day and we will be happy if we can attend to more cases a day," he said. While the average cost for treatment for correcting a cleft lip or a cleft palate disorder is around Rs. 12,000, Dr. Rao said this will be done free of cost at the camp. The organisers would also meet conveyance charge of needy patients, he said. For registration contact Dr. Rao on 98450-08355 or 2431025, 2437374 or the PRO of the hospital on 94481-36339.
