CHENNAI: Private participation has been supplementing the services of Chennai City Traffic Police (CCTP) for about a week now. About a dozen personnel of a private security company, Group 4 Securitas, have been posted at six places in the Chennai Metropolitan Police limits. They assist the CCTP in regulating traffic at the Pantheon Road roundabout, and near Taj Coromandel Hotel on Nungambakkam High Road, the Citi Centre on Radhakrishnan Salai, Mylapore, the Madhya Kailas junction, the Anna Flyover junction and the airport. In each place, two personnel from the company have been posted. Every day they regulate traffic between 8 a.m. and noon and from 4 p.m. and 8 p.m., said a senior police officer.
Experience
The traffic assistance initiative came from the Group 4 Securitas company authorities. The company has experience in assisting traffic police in several important metropolitan centres in the country, the officer said. Before they were allocated work, the personnel were given training for a week. The arrangement could be extended to other intersections provided the company makes available more personnel, authorities said.
