Convocation day
Staff Reporter
Chennai:
Vice-Chancellor of Anna University, D. Viswanathan, has said with the emergence of IT, universities could no longer be considered as the physical repository of knowledge, nor would they have exclusive rights to provide education and training.
Addressing students at the Convocation Day of the Magna College of Engineering, Dr. Viswanathan noted that process of creating new knowledge was evolving rapidly away from the solitary scholar to teams of scholars, spread over a number of disciplines and aided by electronic connectivity. Faculty members, he said, would be expected to be more facilitators and designers of learning experiences, process and environments than teachers. In a changing scenario, the role of libraries too was becoming less of collecting and more of a knowledge navigator-- a facilitator of retrieval and dissemination, the Vice-Chancellor said.
