Minority students question need for separate entrance test
Staff Reporter
HYDERABAD:
Several minority students have questioned the need for Minority Engineering and Medical Common Entrance Test (MEMCET) being conducted by a few institutions when a majority of minority institutions have decided to follow EAMCET.
In a memorandum to the Chairman of Andhra Pradesh Minorities Commission, several students argued that it was a financial burden on parents and students to take two examinations. "The effort and the logic to conduct MEMCET is questionable," they said, stating that why only 15 colleges decided to conduct MEMCET while other minority institutions preferred EAMCET. They argued that when thousands of seats were going vacant in minority colleges for want of eligible candidates. They requested the commission to safeguard the interests of students .
