Commodity rates

The following were the rates (per kg) of essential commodities in the local wholesale market on Tuesday, according to the Vijayawada Chamber of Commerce and Industry: Groundnut oil-52, palmolein oil-41, sunflower oil-47, tamarind (flower variety)-28 to 33, tamarind (karipuli variety)-42 to 49, chillies (new)-30 to 35, rice (2716)-13, rice (super fine)-15, rice (sona masoori)-16 to 17, rice (samba masoori)-15 to 16, black gram-41 and red gram-24.70 to 30.50.

Elected

Garlapati Vidyavathi has been elected vice-district governor of Lions Clubs International (district 324-C4) for 2006-'07. This is the first time that a woman candidate is elected vice-district governor here.

Secured first rank

G. Mary Jyotsna, a student of Adarsha Mahila Kalasala, Poranki, secured first rank in the public examinations conducted by Acharya Nagarjuna University in March 2005. According to a university communication recently, Sowjanya Guntupalli and Rehana Abdul of the same college secured 3rd and 4th ranks respectively. College chairman Tatineni Satyanarayana and others congratulated them.

Medicos to boycott emergency services

Medicos, who are on strike, are going to intensify their agitation from Wednesday. Andhra Pradesh Medical Students Association SMC unit president M. Krishna Chaitanya said that the 24-hour deadline given to the State Government would expire on Wednesday and the house surgeons would boycott emergency services also.
