MADURAI : A total of 11,612 children, who missed the pulse polio immunisation on the first day of the campaign, were administered the vaccine during the door-to-door verification drive, here on Monday, according to S. Shanmugasundaram, Deputy Director of Health Services. Polio vaccine was administered on 2,98,463 children through 1600 booths on April 9 with a staff strength of four persons per booth. During the verification drive, the staff, divided into two batches with each batch comprising an administrator and a recorder, went on a door-to-door campaign to identify the missed out children and administered the vaccine. The department had also made arrangements to check the effectiveness of the campaign through `dip stick survey,' Dr. Shanmugasundaram said. During the survey, the Deputy Director of Health Services (DDHS), Maternal Child Health Officers, District Malaria Officer, Assistant Director (Statistics), Bureau of Health Intelligence, Personal Assistant to DDHS and Non Medical Supervisor, will visit 1348 rural booths with each monitoring 20 booths. The monitoring authority would conduct a random check on seven children per booth. The department would see to it that no child was missed out, he said. Corporation Health officials would conduct a similar survey in 252 urban booths, he said.
