Directive on candidates campaign material

Thiruvananthapuram: The Election Commission has directed political parties and their candidates to remove all unauthorised campaign material from public places in the Thiruvananthapuram North constituency before 2 pm on Wednesday. The Assistant Returning Officer G.Krishnakumar said here on Tuesday that the candidates would have to remove the material on their own, failing which, the anti-defacement squad in the constituency would take steps to remove all the material and charge the expense to the candidates account. Parties and their candidates have also been directed to obtain prior approval from the Election Commission to use vehicles for electioneering. The approval order should be pasted on the vehicle. Unauthorised vehicles will be seized, the official said. — Staff Reporter

Kshetra Kala Peedham to be developed

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The Travancore Devaswom Board is planning to develop the regional centre of the Kshetra Kala Peedham based at the Koyikkal Palace, Attingal, and offer more courses in temple arts, Board member Punalur Madhu announced here on Tuesday. He was addressing students who had passed out of the centre in various disciplines. Culture Director B.Unnikrishnan and Kala Peedham director Thakazhy Sankaranarayanan were present. — Staff Reporter

A 35-year-old woman was injured when her hair caught in a wood-carving machine at a workshop at Ottasekharamangalam near here on Tuesday. Medical College Hospital sources said Geetha was admitted with scalp injuries. She had bent down to pick up something when her hair caught in the machine.

Plea to include astrology

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The 26th Akhila Bharatha Jyothisha Sammelan concluded here on Tuesday with a call to incorporate astrology in the academic curriculum from the high school. A resolution adopted by the meeting urged all the state governments to take steps in this direction. — Staff Reporter
