NEW DELHI: Two of the persons seriously injured in Monday's fire in Meerut died in the burns unit of Delhi's Safdarjung Hospital on Tuesday, while the condition of many others, including eight-year-old Prakasiti Jain brought in with 35 per cent burns, was said to be critical. A total of 42 patients are admitted to various hospitals in the Capital, including Indraprastha Apollo and Sunder Lal Jain Hospital. "While Y. P. Singh died late on Monday evening in Safdarjung Hospital, another victim, Gita Gupta, expired on Tuesday. Most of those admitted are critical except for three who have less than 40 per cent burn injuries. A majority of the patients coming in have respiratory burn injuries and need to be kept under 72-hour observation,'' said doctors at Safdarjung Hospital. Relatives waiting outside the hospital complained that there were no regular updates from the authorities and the medical facilities were inadequate. "We got to know about the incident when our relatives called up from Meerut asking us to make arrangements to transfer Gita to Delhi. We are disappointed with the facilities offered here. The hospital is taking a lot of time to hand over the body of my relative,'' said Jai Kumar Gupta. Chief Development Officer of Noida R. K. Gaharwar and senior Congress leaders R. K. Anand and Kiran Walia visited the patients at Safdarjung Hospital. Speaking about the facilities being offered at Safdarjung Hospital, Mr. Gaharwar said: ``We are satisfied with the facilities. Though the relatives have been complaining about lack of information and delay in releasing the body of Gita, they have to understand that there is a procedure to be followed that cannot be overlooked''.
