HUBLI: The State Bank of Mysore Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribe Officers' Association has alleged that the State Government had failed to initiate action against those who secured employment by producing false caste certificates.

Addressing presspersons here on Wednesday, working president of the association A. Doddamani said that according to an estimate there were nearly 16,000 people in the State who had secured government jobs through false certificates. They included employees in various Government departments, teachers, engineers and even elected representatives of local bodies, he alleged.

Mr. Doddamani said that by neglecting the issue the Government was showing disrespect to the Constitution.

Although the former Revenue Minister M.P. Prakash had promised that the State Government would revoke employment orders that were issued based on false caste certificates, nothing had been done so far, he said. Mr. Doddamani said though memorandums were submitted to the authorities concerned, no action had ben taken. Hence, the association had decided to launch an agitation.

On April 22, members of the association would hold a dharna in front of the office of the SBM in Hubli and also before the office of the tahsildar. The association had also decided to hold dharna during the general body meeting of the SBM, scheduled to take place in Bangalore on May 2, he said.

He said the association would urge the State Government to take measures to get the stay orders of the High Court of Karnataka with regard to the issue vacated at the earliest.
