Corrections and clarification

A reader was confused by the two instances of the word "travel" in "BCCI suspends Dalmiya" (Sport, April 11, 2006). The report was on the alleged misappropriation of funds by former BCCI president Jagmohan Dalmiya. The sentence was "Breaking down the figures he said, `The cash withdrawals for travel were Rs.1.59 crore, Rs.1.28 crore for telephone and more than Rs.1 crore for travel and foreign exchange". The second reference is to foreign travel.

The heading was "MLA's father detained" (Briefly, April 11, 2006, page 1), but the report had no mention of the MLA or the State to which he belongs. The key sentence in the report that was left out relates to Arvind Khanna, Congress MLA from Sangrur, Punjab. His father Vipin Khanna was detained for a while at the Delhi airport for questioning about Aditya Khanna (Vipin Khanna's other son, and an NRI) who is being investigated in connection with the oil-for-food scam.

The PTI report "Mandal Formula under consideration" (April 7, 2006), had a reference to "the passage of the 104th Amendment to the Constitution". It is the 104th Amendment Bill. When Constitution amendment bills are introduced, they are consecutively numbered. Some bills lapse, while some may not be taken up for consideration. The Amendment Act relating to reservations in educational institutions is the 93rd. The crucial words are "amendment bill" and "amendment act".

In "Army denies bias in recruitment procedures" (April 5, 2006), the reference to an infantry battalion is incorrect. It is infantry regiment.
