VISAKHAPATNAM: V. Shankar, V. Rammohan Rao and V. Chiranjeevi, the top seeds in the plus 45, 55 and 65 categories respectively, scored easy wins to reach the quarterfinals of the CMR-AITA veterans' National-ranking tournament here on Wednesday. In the plus-55 section, fifth seed P.R. Raju of AP and the seventh-seeded Pushpa Raj of Karnataka (plus-45) were eliminated. Second-seeded Kesava Perumal of Tamil Nadu was made to fight hard by V. Nani Rao in a plus-65 pre-quarterfinal match. A.R. Rao, who had beaten the fourth seed M. Suresh in the previous round, survived another three-setter against T. Srinivas. Fifth seed T.N. Lakshmanan (plus-65), and C.S. Rajan and N.C. Ashok Reddy, the third and sixth seeds in the 55 division, were taken the distance. The results: Plus-45 pre-quarterfinals: V. Shankar (Del) bt Ch.
