NEW YORK: Olympic and world 100 metres champion Justin Gatlin will compete in the Reebok Grand Prix on June 3 at Randalls Island. This will be the New York outdoor debut for the Brooklyn-born runner. ``The first time I was at Icahn Stadium, I knew you could run sub-10 on that track,'' he said during a conference call on Tuesday, referring to his appearance at the grand opening last spring. ``There's not a lot of tracks I can call home, that have that home feel about them. I think this can be one of those places for me.'' Gatlin's goal is to run 9.75 seconds this season and break the world record of 9.77 seconds set by Jamaica's Asafa Powell. ``With no World Championships this year, running fast times is going to be even more important, so I think it would be a great time to try for the 100-metre world record,'' Gatlin said. ``I'm the world champion. So, of course, I want the world record.'' Gatlin is also the 200 metres world champion. He plans to race in the Kansas and the Penn relays and at three events in England during the summer. AP
