TDP demands dismissal of Panchyat Raj Minister

Special Correspondent

Reportedly insulting remarks towards farming community

HYDERABAD: Taking exception to Panchayat Raj Minister J. C. Diwakar Reddy's `insulting' remarks towards the farming community, the Telugu Desam Party has demanded his dismissal from the Cabinet.

The party has also decided to accept the challenge thrown by Agriculture Minister N. Raghuveera Reddy to participate in public debate on all aspects of agriculture including suicide by farmers.

At separate press conferences, senior party leader, Ummareddy Venkateswarlu and Kala Venkata Rao, MLA, denounced the reportedly uttered remarks of the Minister asking farmers to reduce consumption of liquor and stop eating `biryani' and instead buy capacitors with the savings. Mr. Venkateswarlu said the Government had failed to fulfil the promises it made when it assumed power, from checking suicides by farmers to ensuring remunerative prices for farm produce.
