SHRC notices on suicides

HYDERABAD: The State Human Rights Commission has directed issuance of three notices following reports about suicide by two persons in Nellore because of alleged atrocities by agents of a micro-finance company. A press release said on Wednesday that notices were to be issued to the RBI general manager, Hyderabad, the Nellore District Collector and Spandana Finance Company. - Special Correspondent

Suggestion invited

HYDERABAD: The N. Rangachary Committee looking into the issue of sanction of special CCA and rent-free quarters or additional HRA in revised pay scales to employees working in scheduled areas has invited suggestions. An official release said suggestions could be given to the committee in Secretariat before April 20. - Special Correspondent

Plea for release of aid

HYDERABAD: The State unit of Bharatiya Janata Kisan Morcha has submitted a memorandum to Union Agriculture Minister Sharad Pawar seeking release of the Prime Minister's share of assistance of Rs. 50,000 to families of farmers who committed suicide. - Special Correspondent

Chargesheet filed against Gandi Babji

VISAKHAPATNAM: CB-CID has filed chargesheet in the court of Chief Metropolitan Magistrate against Parawada MLA and District Congress Committee president Gandi Babji in a case of violence during Visakha-I by-election on February 19. Another chargesheet was filed against six TDP partymen for allegedly attacking a Congress party worker. - Special Correspondent

Suicide by weaver

KARIMNAGAR: A powerloom weaver, T. Rajaiah (65) committed suicide on Wednesday by hanging himself from the ceiling in Shantinagar locality of Sircilla town due to unemployment and increasing debts. Police sources said the weaver had incurred debts . Following frequent power cuts, the powerloom sector was forced into crisis. Unable to clear the debt, he resorted to suicide. - Staff Reporter

SVU to probe gospel programme on campus

TIRUPATI: Stung by the adverse fallout of an alleged gospel programme carried out by a pastor in the SV University's E-Block on Tuesday, the Vice-Chancellor on Wednesday constituted a five-member committee headed E. Sathyanarayana of the Department of Statistics to probe the incident and submit a report with suitable recommendations on the steps to be taken to prevent recurrence of such incidents on the campus. -Special Correspondent.

Minister inaugurates milk chilling centre

MADANAPALLE: Panchayat Raj Minister J.C. Diwakar Reddy inaugurated a milk chilling centre at the MPDO office in Thamballapalle constituency. Later, speaking at a gram sabha held in Basinikonda, he urged farmers to install capacitors and assured seven hours of power supply. MLAs -- G. Muddukrishnama Naidu, K. Prabhakar Reddy , P. Ramachandra Reddy and Venkatramana were also present. Collector S.S. Rawat highlighted the various developmental programmes being implemented in the district. - Correspondent

EAMCET hall tickets

TIRUPATI: Hall Tickets for the EAMCET-2006 would be issued at Tirupati Regional Centre (in the SVU Engineering College) between 10 a.m. and 1 p.m. and between 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. till April, 14. Candidates are advised to submit their acknowledgement card for collecting the hall-tickets , said a press release issued by N.C. Eswara Reddy, Regional Coordinator. He also advised that to avoid postal and loss of hall tickets while in transit, they could be better collected in person.- Special Correspondent

Appointed

TIRUPATI: The State Government has appointed G.V. Raghavulu, Retired District and Sessions Judge as the President of the Chittoor District Consumer Forum, Tirupati unit. He would hold the post for a period of five years or up to the age of 65 years whichever is lesser.
