Six new projects on the anvil


  • Rs. 1,646 crore operating surplus
  • 80% operating ratio
  • 11 new trains introduced

    HYDERABAD: Improved freight earnings, passenger traffic and introduction of the automated parking system at Secunderabad are some highlights of South Central Railway's performance in the fiscal 2005-06.

    At a press conference here on Wednesday, SCR General Manager D.N. Mathur said on most parameters, performance in 2005-06 was better than that of the previous year. Passenger traffic was up 5.8 per cent with 216.529 million people commuting in 2005-06 . SCR registered a 13 per cent rise in freight loading, more than the 11 per cent growth recorded by Indian Railways.

    Work will start this year on four projects - the 114-km Obulavaripalle - Krishnapatnam Port line at a cost of Rs. 426 crore, 149-km Manoharabad - Kothapalli new line at Rs. 379 crore, doubling and electrification of 29-km Krishna Canal - Guntur line at Rs. 50 crore and electrification of 161-km Lingampalli - Wadi section at Rs. 95 crore.
