`English language vital to get jobs'

Students of St. Xavier's Catholic College of Engineering in Chunkankadai celebrated the college day festivity `ECHIO-2006.'

The Bishop of Kottar, Leon Dharmaraj, who presided over the function, stressed the need for ethics in the career of engineers. Engineering students must have good command of communicational skills, especially English, to get global job opportunities.

The General Manager of ISRO (Mahendragiri), Jones Rabindran, while delivering the college day address, referred to the role of Russian women in the engineering field.

The Registrar of M.S. University, P. Chellathurai, was the guest of honour.

A one-day national conference on `Advances in electronic communications (ADELCO-2006),' organised by National Engineering College was held on its premises at Kovilpatti recently.

Thirty-five scientific papers from different parts of the country were presented.

P.H. Rao, senior scientist, Antenna Designs and Electro magnetics, SAMEER, inaugurated the conference.

G Venkataswamy Naidu College, Kovilpatti, distributed certificates to its students who had successfully completed a three-month training in Yoga and martial arts like karate and silambam, during last year, at a colourful function held on its premises recently.

Of the 65 students enrolled for the training, 38 studied yoga, 13 got trained in yoga and the rest were trained in silambam.

The National Service Scheme of Sadakkathullah Appa College, Palayamkottai, Youth Red Cross Society and Red Ribbon Club jointly organised blood donation camp on the college premises recently.

The Principal, Sadakkathullah Appa College, H. Syed Othuman, presided over the programme and the in-charge of blood bank, Tirunelveli Medical College Hospital, Poomani, delivered a lecture on `Importance of donating blood,' which saves the life of patients, especially accident victims.

Over 50 students and Prof. Jayalakshmi and Prof. Grace of Department of Zoology, Prof. Azhagu Selvam of Department of History and Anto Nesa Mary of NCC donated blood during the camp and received certificates from Tirunelveli Medical College Hospital for their noble gesture.

The NSS officers N. Mustafa, K.P. Abdul Khadar Maideen, Helen Rani and Joyce Deva Kirubai participated.

A two-day teleconference training in `Quality institutions' to headmasters of secondary schools was held through `Edu Sat' recently at District Institute of Education and Training (DIET), Munanjipatti near Tirunelveli, in which 22 headmasters participated.

Facilitated by the senior lecturer, DIET, Munanjipatti, K. Reguramaiah, experts from Regional Institute of Education, Mysore, B. Phalachandra, P. Veerappan, V.D. Bhat and Rama delivered lectures on `Quality institutions.'
