NEW DELHI: Describing the decision of 11 Congress councillors to send in their resignations to Delhi Pradesh Congress Committee president Ram Babu Sharma as a "political drama", senior Bharatiya Janata Party Councillor Vijender Gupta on Wednesday challenged them to put in their papers as per the provisions of the Delhi Municipal Corporation Act if they had any sympathy for the Capital's beleaguered traders and wanted the Congress-led UPA Government at the Centre to act. In a statement, Mr. Gupta, who is also the secretary of the Delhi BJP, said the so-called resignations of Congress Councillors led by the Leader of MCD House Jitender Kochar had no value. "If the Congress Councillors have any morality left in them, they should resign according to provisions of Section 33 (b) of the MCD Act, addressing their resignations to the Mayor. The resignation letters should be submitted at the Municipal Commissioner's office," said Mr. Gupta. Accusing the Congress party in power at the Centre, in Delhi and in the MCD of indulging in acts of "hypocrisy", Mr. Gupta said: "If the Congress is really serious and wants to help the harassed traders and residents, it should have brought in an Ordinance before the start of the demolition and sealing drives. On the one hand the Congress is promising relief, while on the other the civic body squads continue to seal shops and demolish houses across the city."
