Honours for top students, teachers of Chandigarh

Achievers asked to develop a passion for progressive ideas

CHANDIGARH: The Punjab Governor and Administrator of the Union Territory of Chandigarh, S.F. Rodrigues, on Wednesday honoured 10 students of model and non-model schools of Chandigarh who secured the first five positions in each category in the Middle Standard examination held in March this year. He also honoured the heads of different schools which achieved 100 per cent results.

Complimenting the students and the teachers on their performance, Gen. Rodrigues said that their outstanding work would encourage others to try to achieve the high standards set by them. Emphasising the important role of teachers in imparting intellectual and moral education to children, he said they also inspired them to become confident and good human beings. It was their responsibility to prepare the children to meet the future challenges by encouraging them to question and explore the different aspects of life.

Promising full infrastructural and administrative support, Gen. Rodrigues asked the school principals to come forward with proposals to give maximum number of unfortunate children a chance to study, even by starting a double shift system in their schools.

He exhorted the young achievers to develop their personalities through the acquisition of more and more knowledge and to develop a passion for progressive ideas. He also emphasised the need for every student to identify his/her weaknesses and shortcomings and take remedial steps to achieve all round progress.

The students who were honoured included Abhishek Dhawan,Damini, Tanmay Batra, Deep Shikha, Navpreet Singh, Vinod Yadav, Harpreet Kaur, Naresh Singh, Ram Millan and Pallavi Dhiman. The heads who were honoured included Ram Kumar Sharma, Government Model Senior Secondary School, Sector 16, Saroj Gupta,Government Model Senior Secondary School, Sector 19, Khushinder Sharma, Government Model Senior Secondary School, Sector 35, Suman Sharma, Government Model Senior Secondary School, Sector 37, Jarnail Singh Basota, Government. Model Senior Secondary School,Sector 47, Vijay Kaushal, Government Model High School, Sector 12, Rajwant Kaur, Government High School, Raipur Khurdand B.S. Kanwar, Sharda Sarvhitkari Model Senior Secondary School, Sector 15-D.
