UDF, LDF tie-up with communal forces alleged

BJP's objective is to defeat both fronts: Sreedharan Pillai

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: BJP State president P. S. Sreedharan Pillai said here on Tuesday that the UDF and the LDF had entered into an understanding with extremist and fundamentalist forces that questioned the sovereignty of the country, for electoral gains.

Participating in the `Janavidhi 2006' programme of the Kesari Journalists' Trust here, the State president said that organisations such as the PDP, Jamaat Islami and the National Development Front were organisations which maintained that Kashmir was not part of India.

The CPI(M) had sent T.K. Hamza to the Coimbatore jail to hold discussions with PDP leader Abdul Nasir Maudany who was interned there.

Following that, the party extended its support to the LDF. The Jama-at Islami had also said that it had discussions with the LDF before extending its support to the front. This was a dangerous trend.

Sectionalism in CPI(M)

Mr. Pillai said that the sectionalism in the CPI(M) and warfare between the Congress and the DIC(K) showed the deterioration of those parties and decline of values.

He noted that though Islamic organisations were opposed to the BJP, organisations such as the Infam had supported BJP candidate O. Rajagopal in Palakkad.

Referring to the withdrawal of his party's candidate in Thiruvananthapuram West constituency, Mr. Pillai said party supporters were free to vote for independents according to their conscience. The party's objective was the defeat of the candidates of the two fronts.

It saw that independents had better scope for defeating them than its own candidate.

He said that the Yuva Morcha leader K. Surendran had not entered the contest as there was a warrant against him for participation in a picketing of the Secretariat.
