BHOPAL: Curfew was relaxed for a few hours at Khandwa on Wednesday afternoon as no untoward incident was reported in the city after Tuesday's communal clashes. Khandwa was brought under curfew after mobs belonging to two different communities went berserk and started throwing stones. Since there was heavy police deployment, keeping in view the Milad-un-Nabi and Mahavir Jayanti processions, the situation was soon brought under control on Tuesday. The Khandwa Superintendent of Police told The Hindu that five cases had been registered under various sections of the Indian Penal Code, including Section 153 (a) for inciting communal passions. Twenty-two persons belonging to two different communities had been arrested.
