Yasin Malik to launch `freedom journey'

Shujaat Bukhari

SRINAGAR: The pro-freedom separatist outfit, Jammu and Kashmir Liberation Front, will launch a "Safar-e-Azadi" (Freedom Journey) this coming June in Jammu and Kashmir with the aim of engaging people in the "decision-making process with regard to resolution of the Kashmir issue'', JKLF chief Yasin Malik announced on Wednesday.

Mr. Malik was addressing journalists after returning home from his one-month-long stay in Pakistan. In his latest campaign, Mr. Malik would seek approval from the people belonging to Kashmir, Jammu, Ladakh and "Pakistan Administered Kashmir'' for his demand for inclusion of Kashmiri leadership in the decision-making process.

Mr. Malik's "yatra", comprising four phases, will start from the frontier Kupwara district of Kashmir Valley. Lending his outfit's support to the ongoing peace process between India and Pakistan, the JKLF chairman, however, said optimism about this process was yet to be developed among the people of Kashmir. "We support the peace process but we urge upon both countries to engage ideological political forces and militants in the dialogue process ,'' he said.
