HYDERABAD: The 11th INTACH Heritage Awards will be given away to six well-conserved and preserved heritage buildings and precincts of city at a function to be held at Grand Kakatiya Sheraton Hotel and Towers on April 19. The INTACH Heritage Annual- 2006, an informative document focussing on some facets of life of Hyderabad, would be released at the awards function coinciding with the World Heritage Day. Disclosing the details, INTACH Andhra Pradesh chapter convener Sravan Kumar said the Awards Programme was launched in 1996 for creating awareness about the necessity to conserve heritage precincts in the city. The INTACH Awards Committee convenor Susheel Kumar said that 200 nominations were screened by a four-member committee which shortlisted 24 precincts, buildings, gardens and lakes. The short-listed nominations were visited by the Judges Panel and it would select six nominations for the annual heritage awards. He said following the Prime Minister's directive to Department of Culture to treat heritage as a thrust area, a heritage commission was constituted to give its recommendations including stringent legislation for protection of heritage sites..
