CHENNAI: The Central Crime Branch (CCB) police arrested the owner of a medical college on charges of cheating. According to the police, Papa Rajendran allegedly assured a doctor from Ambur, Parthiban that he would help the latter open a centre affiliated to the Chattisgarh University to conduct courses. Taken in by Rajendran's words, Mr. Parthiban paid him Rs. 30 lakh. However, the accused neither helped him open a centre nor paid back his cash. Following this, Mr. Parthiban filed a complaint with the CCB. Further investigation is on.
Fuel theft
The Manali police arrested five persons for allegedly pilfering petrol from tanker lorries. According to the police, the arrested are K. Dhanraj (36) of Manali, N. Ramesh (28) of Aminjikarai, C. Arumuga (31) of Wallajah, V. Palani (36) of Manali and S. Sathish (21) of Tambaram. The police said the five worked in a private lorry company and transported fuel from the Chennai Petroleum Corporation Limited to another unit. The police are on the lookout for the company owner. Further investigation is on.
