Staff Reporter

They are expected to file nominations for Assembly polls

CHENNAI: Three Chennai Corporation councillors, who are expected to file nominations for the Assembly elections, have resigned their posts on the ground that they do not want to take any chances.

On Wednesday, DMK councillors Sankari Narayanan and V.S. Babu submitted their resignation to the Corporation Commissioner M.P. Vijayakumar at Ripon Buildings.

AIADMK councillor Venkatesh Babu, who has been announced as his party's candidate for Purasawalkam constituency, has already given his resignation letter.

Congress councillor Royapuram R. Mano, who will contest from R.K. Nagar, is also expected to submit his resignation letter soon. DMK floor leader C.V. Malayan said the resignations were only a precautionary step taken by the candidates as they the councillors did not want to be caught on the wrong foot holding two posts at a time.

Since the Deputy Mayor has been absent from office, the councillors gave the letters to the Commissioner.
