Argument leads to firing in air

Staff Reporter

HYDERABAD: A flat owner allegedly opened fire in the air after a carpenter picked a quarrel for being "wrongly accused of stealing a mobile" at Humayunnagar on Wednesday.

The police booked cases and counter cases against Elegance Apartments owners' association office-bearer Ikram Kaleem and carpenter Syed Iftekaruddin and his relatives. The carpenter of the AC Guards area was called in by a woman Mehdie who recently checked into a flat for some repair work around 11 a.m. Some time later the woman realised that her mobile phone was missing. She suspected the hand of the carpenter and called up her relative Harsha of Banjara Hills. "As the carpenter feigned ignorance about the mobile, Harsha lost his cool and slapped him," Humayunnagar Inspector Pratap Reddy told The Hindu . Iftekaruddin went to his house and returned with his relatives who confronted Harsha accusing the latter of levelling false charges.

Kaleem intervened and tried to pacify the carpenter. But the carpenter's relatives became furious on learning that the missing mobile was found in the flat. "A physical fight ensued and Kaleem opened one round of fire in the air with his .32 revolver," the Inspector explained.
