Double murder accused held

Staff Reporter

HYDERABAD: It was a fruit shop worker Mahboob Ali who was allegedly responsible for the twin murders of a mother and daughter reported 10 days ago at Saroornagar, police claimed on Wednesday. Both Ali and the victim Bhagyalaxmi, 28, had split up with their respective spouses and were living separately. "They reportedly became close and started living together," Saroornagar Inspector S. Rajasekhara Rao said. However, their relationship too did not last longer and Ali was desperate to get separated from Bhagyalaxmi.

Recently, Ali went back to his former wife and began living with her inviting the wrath of Bhagyalaxmi. Ali got vexed with Bhagyalaxmi for frequently visiting his house and quarrelling for revival of relationship. On April 2, Ali offered liquor to Bhagyalaxmi and allegedly slit her throat with a knife when she was drunk.

"He also killed the victim's 10-year-old daughter Sandhya in a similar way," the Inspector said. Ali has been remanded in judicial custody.
