Number of voters down by 1.96 lakhs

Electorate highest in Thripunithura

KOCHI: The electorate in Ernakulam district has fallen by 1.96 lakh compared to the Assembly elections held in 2001.

According to the latest official figures available with the Election Department, the total number of voters in the 14 Assembly constituencies in Ernakulam district is 21,01,387. The district had 22,97,957 voters in 2001.

Of the 21,01,387 voters in 2006, 10,42,761 are male and 10,58,626 are women. Women are more in number than male voters in 10 constituencies in Ernakulam district.

Thripunitura constituency has the highest number of voters (2,00,876) while Mattancherry has the lowest number of voters (92,775).

Male voters have overtaken women in Angamaly, Perumbavur, Kunnathunadu, Kothamangalam and Muvattupuzha constituencies. In Angamaly, the number of male voters is 80,429 as against 79,009 women voters.

Electorate in various constituencies in the order of male, female, and total voters: Angamaly (80,429/ 79,009/ 1,59,438); Vadakkekara (69,203/ 72,115/ 1,41,318); Paravur (64,589/ 68,725/ 1,33,314); Njarakkal (65,413/ 69,779/ 1,35192); Ernakulam (70,100/71,599/ 1,41,699); Mattancherry (45,044/ 47,731/ 92,775); Palluruthy (84,822/ 87,616/ 1,72,438); hTripunitura (98,956/1,01,920/2,00,876); Aluva (90,869/91,061/1,81,930); Perumbavur (76,594/ 74,681/1,51,275); Kunnathunadu (76,085/74,697/1,50,782); Piravom (70,983/ 71,972/1,42,955); Muvattupuzha (71,281/70,143/ 1,41,424); Kothamangalam (78,393/ 77,578/1,55,971).

Vehicles used for election campaign should carry the permit issued by the Returning Officers of the respective Assembly constituencies in Ernakulam district. Political parties should furnish the registration number of the vehicle in the application form prescribed for getting the permit. Vehicle passes are available with Returning Officers. Candidates should seek the sanction of the Police for using audio system in the vehicles. Permits should be displayed prominently on vehicles.

Poll expenditure

Candidates have to submit their poll expenditure before observers in charge of analysing the expenditure incurred by various political parties during the campaign. Candidates have to submit the details every three days.
