NEW DELHI: The sister and teenage daughter of Sarabjit Singh, who faces the death penalty in Pakistan for allegedly being an Indian spy and triggering bomb explosions in Pakistan, met President A.P.J. Abdul Kalam at Rashtrapati Bhavan on Wednesday and appealed to him to intervene in the issue. Rashtrapati Bhawan sources said Mr. Kalam told them he would study the matter and discuss it with the appropriate authorities in the Government. "He also informed them that the Indian Government had already taken up the matter with the highest authorities in Pakistan," an official said. The two women, Dalbir Kaur and her niece, also submitted a written statement to the President. Claiming that her brother had been framed in the case, Ms. Dalbir Kaur is also believed to have expressed a desire to visit Pakistan to meet Sarabjit.
