BANGALORE: Minister for Forests, Ecology and Environment C. Chennigappa, who is also the Bangalore Rural district in-charge Minister, on Wednesday directed the Bangalore Rural Zilla Panchayat officials to ensure that there is no drinking water crisis in the district this summer.

Speaking at the zilla panchayat meeting here, the Minister asked the officials to make alternative arrangements to supply drinking water in villages facing water scarcity.

He also wanted the officials to consult the area MLAs and zilla panchayat member before sinking borewells.

"Sinking borewells and starting mini-water schemes should be done only after the local MLAs approve the location," he said.

Responding to complaints of encroachment of government property, the Minister directed the officials to recover the property. Earlier, members complained about the poor roads in most villages in the district and pointed out that paucity of funds affected upgrading work.

    Delegation

The Minister assured them that he would lead a delegation of zilla panchayat members and MLAs to Chief Minister H.D. Kumaraswamy to seek additional funds for roadworks.
