BANGALORE: The Karnataka Urban Water Supply and Drainage Board (KUWS&DB) Officers and Officials Union has urged the State Government to entrust the board with the maintenance of all water supply schemes, even those run by various municipalities, in the State. The board, which is maintaining the water supply schemes in 244 towns, is capable of handling more schemes, union president K.H. Huche Gowda said here on Wednesday. Mr. Huche Gowda told presspersons that if the board is allowed to maintain water supply schemes for all municipalities, the revenue collection can be enhanced and the schemes can be maintained properly.
Maintenance
"Although we are managing water supply schemes for most of the city municipalities and town municipalities, we want the Government to entrust us with the maintenance of schemes especially in Bellary, Gulbarga and Mysore. The revenue being collected at present in these areas is much less than that earned in places such as Mandya, Hubli-Dharwad and Bidar, which are maintained by the board," he said. This apart, the union wants the State Government to entrust the board with projects relating to water supply and drainage approved by the World Bank, the Asian Development Bank and other international agencies. The union has requested the Government to continue the services of B. Srinivas Reddy, Managing Director of the board.
