HMIL to increase number of dealers to 200

Staff Reporter

Southern region accounts for 28 per cent of company's sales

  • Plan to increase sales and service network
  • Rise in exports in March
  • 42,000 vehicles sold in Kerala during January-December 2005

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Hyundai Motor India Limited (HMIL), a wholly owned subsidiary of Hyundai Motor Company, plans to increase the number of dealers to 200 by this year-end.

Addressing a press conference here during his recent visit to the capital, Senior Manager, (Regional Sales, South), HMIL, V. Ramachandran said the decision was taken as part of increasing the sales and service network in the country.

At present, Hyundai has 157 dealers and 138 service centres in 181 cities. Kerala has eight dealerships, 21 dealer service centres, five authorised service centres and 41 service contact points.

The southern region is an important market for Hyundai vehicles, accounting for 28 per cent of total sales in the country. "The sales of vehicles, including all models from our stable, touched 42,000 in Kerala during January to December 2005. The South is a big market for us and Kerala is a challenging market," Mr. Ramachandran said.

The manufacture of 10 lakh cars from the modern manufacturing plant near Chennai on March 30 this year, in a record eight years, is a big achievement, Mr. Ramachandran said adding that domestic sales and exports of the entire range of Hyundai vehicles touched 30,000 in March 2006 compared to 23,000 in the corresponding period last year.

The road show showcases the entire range of Hyundai vehicles sold in the country — seven cars across six segments — from the Santro Xing to the off-roader Tucson. Two cars yet to make an entry into the country — ultra luxury sedan Azera and the sports coupe Tuscani — that have been especially shipped from Korea are on display at the road show.
