Pondicherry: Dr. M.A.S. Subramanian, a nominee of the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) filed his nomination seeking re-election from the Mudaliarpet constituency to the territorial Assembly on the opening day of filing of nominations on Thursday. Dr. Subramanian was returned to the Assembly as nominee of the DMK in the last poll held in 2001. P.Rajavelu, nominee of Puduchery Munnetra Congress (PMC), filed his papers seeking reelection from Bahoor (reserved) constituency. He joined the PMC a few weeks ago after quitting the MLA post. sHe was the Government whip in the outgoing Assembly. Mr. Rajavelu was elected from Bahoor (reserved) constituency in the last poll held in 2001 as the nominee of the then Puduchery Makkal Congress. The party merged with the ruling Congress in 2001 when the Congress formed the government. Feeling that he would be left in the cold should he continue in the Congress he shifted his allegiance to the PMC floated by former Home Minister P. Kannan a few weeks ago. G. Nehru alias Kuppusamy and D.N. Suresh were the other candidates who filed nominations on Thursday as Independents seeking election from Olreanpet and Cottuchery constituencies respectively. Thus, totally four candidates filed nominations on Thursday.
