Rs. 57.74 cr. for supply of electricity to poor in Srikakulam district

Srikakulam: Under the Rajiv Gandhi Rural Electrification Programme (RGREP), Srikakulam district will get a special grant of Rs.57.74 crores for provision of electricity to the houses of the poor in the rural areas.

In the first phase, this programme would be implemented in villages selected for Indiramma scheme, according to a press note released by the office of Revenue Minister Dharmana Prasada Rao.

A special feature of the RGREP was that people below the poverty linewould get power connection on payment of just Rs.125 as against the normal payment of Rs.400, the press note clarified. There are nearly 1.95 lakh BPL houses in the district.

The scheme would be extended to all villages in a phased manner. The Transco had already conducted a survey to identify the beneficiaries and execute the scheme, the press note said.
