CHANDIGARH: In a significant development, Himachal Pradesh on Thursday agreed to Haryana's request to impress upon the Power Trading Corporation of India (PTCI), to whom it has sold all rights of power, to give preference to Haryana for supply of power in the coming months. Haryana Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda who met his Himachal Pradesh counterpart Virbhadra Singh at Shimla urged him to help Haryana in meeting the growing power needs of the State. Responding immediately, Mr.Virbhadra Singh asked the Chairman, Himachal Pradesh Electricity Board, Kanwar Shamsher Singh, to impress upon the PTCI to give preference to Haryana in the supply of power in the coming months.
Entry points
Mr. Virbhadra Singh urged Mr. Hooda to help in the speedy clearance for construction of Kalka-Pinjore bye-pass as these were the entry points to Himachal Pradesh and were at present very congested. Mr. Hooda said that Haryana was very serious about this project and suggested that they should jointly meet the Union Surface Transport Minister to get this project cleared soon. He also agreed to the widening of Baddi-Chandigarh road in view of problems being faced by the residents of that area.
Tripartite pact favoured
Haryana Power Minister Venod Sharma suggested that a tripartite agreement be signed between PTCI,Himachal Pradesh and Haryana Power Board for regular supply of power to the State. It was also decided that a meeting be held between power officers of Himachal Pradesh and Haryana shortly to chalk out a strategy to cope with this problem in Haryana. Himachal Food and Supplies Minister Singhi Ram,Himachal Chief Secretary S.S. Parmar, Principal Secretary to Haryana Chief Minister M.L. Tayal, Financial Commissioner and Principal Secretary, Power R.N. Prashar and Managing Director, Haryana Power Generation Corporation Jyoti Arora were also present.
