LUCKNOW: Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Mulayam Singh Yadav has announced a cash award of Rs five lakhs for Javed, who saved many children during the trade fair fire at Meerut on Monday, but succumbed to his injuries Thursday morning. Eighteen-year-old Javed died at Delhi's Safdarjung hospital after battling for life for three days. Principal Secretary (Home) S. K. Aggarwal said Javed sustained burns when he was rescuing out people from the burning `pandal' on the fateful day. A report from Meerut said Javed had suffered 70 per cent burns. ``We have already forwarded our recommendation to the Central and the State Government,'' District Magistrate Mukesh Meshram said in Meerut. ``Puja Srivastava, who also saved many people without fearing for her own life, will also be honoured at the district level,'' he added. Puja is currently undergoing treatment at a Meerut nursing home. Meanwhile, U.P. Government has received the notice of the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) on the Meerut incident. Taking suo-motu cognisance of news reports, the Commission directed the State Chief Secretary and Director General of Police to provide details of those killed, injured and missing, case registered and status of investigations besides steps taken by the administration to provide relief, including free medical treatment to the injured.
