LUCKNOW: Curfew in five police station areas of the riot-hit Aligarh town of Uttar Pradesh was relaxed in a phased manner on Thursday. Additional Director General of Police (Law and Order) Padman Singh said here that curfew was relaxed in phases from 9 a.m. in the five police station areas -- Banna Devi, Sasni Gate, Delhi Gate, Gandhi Park and Kotwali. No untoward incident was reported from any of the five areas during the curfew relaxation period, Mr Singh said, adding that increase in period of relaxation was being contemplated. The ADG said on Wednesday night a man was stabbed by assailants in the Delhi Gate area, but the incident was not connected to communal violence. ``It was suspected to be committed for looting the man,'' he maintained. The communal riots in Aligarh on April 6 last had resulted in loss of eight lives and 275 persons have so far been arrested for the flare up. UNI
