13 lawyers facing contempt of court charges for creating ruckus in the court room

LUCKNOW: The Lucknow Bench of Allahabad High Court has summoned a list of criminal cases pending against 13 civil court lawyers facing contempt of court charges for allegedly creating ruckus in the district court room here last month.

The Division Bench comprising Justice O P Srivastava and Justice Shailendra Saxena had taken suo moto cognisance of the matter and issued notices to the District Magistrate and SSP to appear in person and explain as to why the earlier orders of the court for arranging adequate security in the court premises was not complied with.

The court, which heard the matter on Wednesday, was apprised of the security arrangements in the court premises by the DM and SSP.

Some lawyers had created a ruckus in the room of District Judge S C Sharma last month and got two of their colleagues, both accused in a murder case, released on bail.

The judge even wrote in his order while granting them interim bail that the lawyers had exerted pressure on him.

Later, the High Court had barred 13 lawyers of the civil court from entering the court premises following which the lawyers threatened to abstain from judicial work.

The court fixed April 18 for further hearing of the matter.- PTI
