Temples witness Vishu rush

Kaineetam given to 3,000 people at temple; celebrations reach a high

KOZHIKODE: Vishu was celebrated with traditional fervour in the district on Friday.

There was heavy rush at temples. Temples in the city also arranged `Vishukani'. Vishukani was arranged at Varakkal Sri Durga Devi Temple at 4 a.m. Vishukaineetam was disbursed to nearly 3,000 people.

Vishukani was also arranged at Panniyankara Sri Durga Bhagavathy Temple from 4.30 a.m.

Crackers were burst to celebrate the occasion. Streets wore a deserted look as people stayed indoors.

Shops and business establishments remained closed for the day.

The people also enjoyed the holiday by visiting the beach here with families. People made last minute shopping on Thursday evening.

The shops on SM Street and the makeshift pandals on the Mananchira Square recorded brisk business on Thursday evening.
